The trails here are great, and are not overly-crowded. You can get a lot of solitude time here. I particularly liked the red trail, which has some very nice overlooks. The orange trail was not marked very well and has lots of off-shoots, so that one can be a challenge to make sure you're still on the right path. Some of the trails do have some good inclines, so beware of that. The fire tower is also super cool, but they have the very top part closed off. You can still get an okay view from the highest section they let you get up to.
State needs to work on the grass overgrowth in the lake. Anything past spring its a less than desirable place to fish. Always nice views nonetheless.
Loved our camping stay at Scioto Trail State Park. We were just past the restored church building and it was nice and quiet. The lake was beautiful, the camp store lady was very nice and super helpful, really thoughtful conveniences like loaner fishing poles and a special kayak/canoe dock with wheelchair access, only issue was some of the trails need maintenance (badly) - so just check with the staff on which trails are clear (and which to avoid - I'd recommend avoiding the Church Hollow loop trail ATM)
Trails are good challenges. Friendly. Still a great place to stay. Been camping here a few years now, just really like it. Smaller & quieter than most. They're still adding, so can't wait to see what's next.
This State Park is different or unique depending on how you look at it. There are different areas that aren't always connected by trails and sometimes separated by private property. Most of the parks areas are along the main entrance road. The park has well maintained trails, beautiful views, and a couple of small lakes.
Family friendly! Clean campsites, large lots, and well shaded. RV campers here so it didn't matter for us, but as an FYI, the restrooms available are out house style.
We love the nature talks provided - Amy was awesome! Kim in the store/visitor center is great, super resourceful! Make sure to get your park passport stamped! (And buy a color campfire packet!)
If you hike, be sure to bring plenty of big spray.
I've been to this park three times in recent weeks. I've enjoyed it very much. As others have stated, the trails are steep in places, I would still call them moderate, but on the more challenging side of moderate. There's lots of life in the shallow lake, and the surrounding woodlands. I've found the park clean and well maintained, even some of the roads have been recently repaved.
Nice friendly staff clean park 2 playgrounds nice secluded camp park only down fall no shower houses
